Don Schmidt

Don Schmidt is United Healthcare's Plan President for the Louisiana and Georgia Community and State Health Plans. Prior to joining United Healthcare, Mr. Schmidt was Chief Operating Officer for Wellcare of Georgia, a subsidiary of WellCare Health Plans. While with Wellcare he also served as their Executive Director for the Florida market and as a Regional Vice President for the Southeast region. He has served for over 20 years in various executive roles with health systems, physician organizations, insurance companies, the long term care industry and managed care organizations. Mr. Schmidt has extensive experience in both Medicaid and Medicare managed care plans and has operated health plans serving beneficiaries in Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana and Georgia.

Mr. Schmidt stays very active in his community and has held Board of Director positions with the Arthritis Foundation and the American Heart Association. He serves several youth organizations as a volunteer and coach. Mr. Schmidt received his Masters in Health Services Administration from the University of Arkansas. He is currently living in Atlanta with his wife and two children.
