Shannon Stevenson

Shannon is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Emory University's Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. Her primary role is teaching all prelicensure students maternal and reproductive nursing courses. She also works at Northside Hospital, teaching childbirth preparation classes to parents-to-be. Before beginning her career in nursing education, Shannon was a labor and delivery/mother-baby nurse in Houston, Texas. She earned a BA in Medicine, Health, and Society and an MSN in Nurse-Midwifery from Vanderbilt University. She continued her education to earn a Doctorate in Education in Nursing Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. After having a baby at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Shannon became passionate about researching the transition to parenthood and how nurses can best aid in helping parents feel confident and cared for in their new role. A native of Marietta, Shannon and her husband enjoy exploring the Atlanta food scene with their daughter and spending time at the lake with their two Labrador Retrievers.
