A Message From Our Executive Director
Dear HMHBGA Community:
As a mother, public health professional, maternal health researcher, leader, and advocate, what I know for sure is that all pregnant people need access to the information, resources, and support to help them have a safe and healthy pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum period. Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia (HMHBGA) believes that every mother deserves respectful care that honors individual needs. Accurate evidence-based information is essential to respectful care.
Extensive research confirms that using Tylenol (acetaminophen) as directed during pregnancy does not increase the risk of autism (JAMA). Leading medical authorities, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), continue to identify acetaminophen as the safest choice for managing pain or fever during pregnancy, and emphasize the important and necessary role acetaminophen can play in addressing high fevers experienced in pregnancy.
Most importantly, every pregnant person in Georgia should have the opportunity to discuss their questions, concerns, and treatment options with their healthcare providers throughout their pregnancy journey, from prenatal to postpartum care. Please reach out to me or any of our amazing team to talk more about this or any other issues you see as essential for maternal health in our state.
Respectfully,
Margaret Master
